The National Maritime Council Backs Marcos' Stance on West Philippine Sea

As tensions escalate in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), the National Maritime Council (NMC) has unequivocally endorsed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s resolute commitment to defending the country's sovereign rights. In a recent statement, the NMC reaffirmed its dedication to upholding international law and protecting the Philippines' maritime domain.

Strengthening Maritime Security

Established in March 2024 through an Executive Order, the NMC is tasked with enhancing Philippine maritime security and promoting awareness about the importance of defending the country's territorial integrity. With this mission in mind, the council has reiterated its support for Marcos' resolve to address any foreign intrusion into the Philippines' exclusive economic zones (EEZ).

International Law The Bedrock

According to the NMC, the government's firm stance on defending its sovereign rights is firmly grounded in international law. Citing the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award, the council emphasized that the Philippines has every right to protect its maritime domain.

A Firm Resolve

In a striking display of determination, Marcos reiterated his commitment to defending the country's EEZ during a February 6 press briefing. Even if they collide with our ship, even if they use a water cannon, even if they block us, he said, leaving no doubt about the government's willingness to stand up for its rights.

The China Coast Guard A Persistent Presence

This unwavering resolve comes as Chinese vessels, including the notorious monster ship of the China Coast Guard, continue to patrol the waters off Zambales, casting a long shadow over Philippine sovereignty. For more than a month now, these vessels have been present in the WPS.

The Energetic Response

In the face of this escalating tension, the NMC's endorsement of Marcos' stance has sent shockwaves throughout the country. Filipinos are rallying behind their president, determined to see him through this challenging period. As the nation stands united in defense of its territorial integrity, one thing is clear the Philippines will not back down.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
