BOC Seizes Luxury Vehicles Worth P1.4 Billion in Raids on Warehouses
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has made a significant move against luxury vehicle smuggling, seizing 17 imported vehicles worth at least P1.4 billion from warehouses in Pasay City and Parañaque City.
According to Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, the seizure was authorized after receiving intelligence information that the luxury vehicles were being sold online without paying duties and taxes. The sellers, AC Che Gong Miao in Pasay and TopCar Specialist and Trading Corp. in Parañaque, allegedly engaged in illegal activities by selling these high-end vehicles without declaring them to customs.
The seized vehicles include units of Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Maserati, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, Maybach, Range Rover, Bentley, Alphard, and Jeep Wrangler from Pasay City, as well as Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Mansory, Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Maybach, and BMW from Parañaque City.
The total estimated value of the seized vehicles is around P1.4 billion, although a final inventory will be released once all documents are processed.
CIIS Director Verne Enciso explained that the team received a tip about these vehicles early this month and immediately verified the information before processing the necessary orders to conduct the operation.
Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy emphasized that owners, lessees, lessors, occupants, representatives, or any parties responsible for the warehouses have 15 days from receiving the Letter of Authority (LOA) to submit the necessary documents proving that duties and taxes were paid correctly. Failure to comply will result in charges under Sections 1400, 1401 in relation to Section 1113 of Republic Act 10863.
This seizure sends a strong message to all importers who think they're already safe after their products exited port. The BOC is committed to cracking down on luxury vehicle smuggling and ensuring that duties and taxes are paid correctly.
