USA Hantavirus Evacuation Flight
USA Hantavirus Evacuation Flight, a medical flight with a mission to transp[6D[K
transport two American citizens suffering from Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrom[7D[K
Syndrome (HPS) to the United States for treatment. The patients were evacua[6D[K
evacuated on a U.S. government-chartered Airbus A330-243 aircraft in coordi[6D[K
coordination with the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory at E[1D[K
Emory University.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that both in[2D[K
individuals are infected with Hantavirus, which causes HPS. The disease is [K
spread to humans through contact with rodent urine or feces. Symptoms of Ha[2D[K
Hantavirus include abdominal pain, fever, and muscle aches.
Emory University Hospital's Wound Clinic served as the departure point for [K
this unique medical flight. One patient was transported from their home in [K
rural Peru to the clinic by helicopter. Once stabilized and prepared for tr[2D[K
travel, both patients were put on ventilators and flown to Atlanta, Georgia[7D[K
Georgia, where they will receive treatment at Emory University Hospital.
This Hantavirus medical evacuation is one of several missions that AeroVant[8D[K
AeroVantage has completed for the United States government. Our team takes [K
pride in providing rapid, critical care transportation when and where it ma[2D[K
matters most. We are committed to delivering safe, reliable, and patient-ce[10D[K
patient-centric services for all our patients on each mission.
The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs provided a loan t[1D[K
to American citizens affected by this illness. They collaborated with the C[1D[K
CDC, the Peruvian government, and private companies to facilitate their eva[3D[K
evacuation.
Emory University Hospital's Wound Clinic served as the departure point for [K
the Hantavirus medical flight.
