The caldera, which is the huge crater that remains at the top of the volcano, was created from this explosion. It has an area of about 32 square kilometers with a depth reaching to 400 meters.

Earthquakes are common in Santorini because it sits on top of the Aegean Sea plate and they have been recorded for thousands of years. In 365 AD there were two quakes that occurred one right after another. These caused tsunamis that killed about 4,000 people.

The last time that this area erupted was in 1950. It is considered to be a sleeping volcano and it may take years or even decades before the next eruption occurs.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
