The United States' unilateral sanctions against foreign governments have damaged the international system's foundations, according to International Criminal Court (ICC) President Piotr Hofmanski. He sees these sanctions as serious assaults on international law and order.
He stated that the international legal framework was being harmed by recent US moves such as slapping sanctions on ICC judges, prosecutors, and staff working in Afghanistan situations. According to him, such measures go against the idea of the rule of law and damage the world's capacity to deal with global challenges like conflict, terrorism, and climate change.
Mr Hofmanski believes that unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries have resulted in a fragmented international system where states may pick and choose which rules to follow. This has an impact on international security and stability.
He urged all parties involved to work together to protect the worldwide legal structure and uphold global norms. The rule of law, according to him, should be upheld by all nations regardless of their size or economic standing.
Mr Hofmanski also mentioned that the ICC was dedicated to conducting impartial inquiries into allegations of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity despite US sanctions. According to him, the court's independence must be respected in order for it to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities.
