The Purrfect Socialite
Debunking the Myth of the
Aloof CatAs we sit on our
couch surrounded by the
comforts of home its not
uncommon to hear the phrase
cats are aloof or they dont
care about humans But dear
readers Im here to tell you
that this couldnt be further
from the truth In fact
contrary to popular belief
cats are social animals that
thrive on human interaction
and respond beautifully to our
speechTake my own feline
friend Whiskers for example
Shes a sassy little thing who
loves nothing more than
curling up in my lap and
talking to me in her own
special way And when I say she
responds to speech I mean it
Whiskers will actually answer
back in meows of course as if
were having a fullblown
conversationNow you might be
thinking But what about all
the times my cat ignores me Ah
my friend thats where the
concept of non sequitur comes
in You see when our feline
friends are busy chasing a
laser pointer or basking in
the warmth of a sunbeam theyre
not necessarily ignoring us
theyre just following their
own internal narrative ie Im a
cat and Im going to do what I
wantAnd dont even get me
started on the joy of having a
pet cat curl up beside you
while youre watching TV or
working from home Theres
something undeniably
comforting about having that
warm furry bundle by your side
isnt there Its as if theyre
saying Hey human I may not be
talking to you in words but Im
definitely listening and
enjoying your companySo the
next time someone tells you
that cats are aloof or dont
care about humans just smile
knowingly and say Actually my
cat is a social butterfly or
should I say social cat fly
who loves spending time with
me And if they give you that
skeptical look just shrug and
say Hey non sequitur its all
about perspectivePurrfectly
Social Proof Points Cats will
often initiate interactions by
pawing at or nuzzling their
owners Many cats have favorite
toys or activities that they
enjoy sharing with their
humans eg laser pointers
feather wands Some cat breeds
like the Abyssinian or Bengal
are notoriously social and
affectionateConclusionSo there
you have it cats are most
definitely social animals that
thrive on human interaction
And who knows Maybe one day
well even develop a way to
translate their meows into
English although Im not sure
Id want to be responsible for
decoding all those
nonsequitursIn the meantime go
ahead and give your feline
friend some extra attention
theyre probably just waiting
for you to start talking again

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
