As a result, mining sites are frequently the scenes of deadly landslides and accidents.Authorities have been struggling for some time to control the unregulated mining of this precious metal in the country, which ranks among the world's poorest.The toll at 1800 today is 48 dead following the collapse, said a police source.Some of the victims fell into the water.
