The Power of Bersamin Dismissing Rumors of Cabinet Revamp
In a move aimed at quelling speculation and maintaining stability in the administration, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has officially ruled out any plans to reorganize President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s cabinet. During a press conference in Pasay City on Thursday, Bersamin emphasized that rumors of two more members resigning from their posts are mere speculations with no basis.
When asked about Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan Uy's recent focus on traveling abroad rather than running his department, as well as Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez's possible departure, Bersamin remained non-committal. I do not know yet how true they are or if there is any basis, he said. But usually, speculations are always present. He reiterated that the administration cannot dignify unconfirmed rumors.
The rumors surrounding Uy and Chavez may have been fueled by Uy's recent priorities, but President Marcos has so far resisted making any changes to his cabinet.
Chavez did announce his decision to go on leave and named Presidential Communications Senior Undersecretary Emerald Ridao as officer-in-charge of the agency.
In a separate announcement, Bersamin confirmed that Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista is resigning due to health reasons. Marcos has appointed former Bases Conversion and Development Authority chief Vivencio Dizon as his replacement.
Bersamin emphasized that President Marcos was solicitous of his cabinet members' health, stating that when the two discussed Bautista's resignation, it became clear that he genuinely needed a break from official duties. Bersamin also denied claims that the president had asked Bautista to resign.
As we navigate the complexities of governance and leadership, it is crucial to separate fact from fiction. In this case, Malacañang has clearly dismissed rumors of a cabinet revamp, maintaining stability and continuity in the administration.
