The Mysterious Absence Why
Cats Are Missing from
ScriptureAs I sat surrounded
by my feline friends their
soft purrs and playful pounces
filling the air it struck me
cats are conspicuously absent
from the pages of the Bible No
mention of Whiskers or Fluffy
in Genesis no cuddles with
Mittens in Psalms no catnaps
in Matthew Its as if our
feline companions didnt exist
at allIm not alone in my
curiosity Many have pondered
this peculiar omission
wondering why the Almighty
seemed to overlook these
lovable creatures Some
speculate that cats were too
rare or exotic in ancient
times while others propose
that their reputation for
being solitary and aloof might
have contributed to their
exclusionBut I think its more
than that As someone who has
spent countless hours
communing with my cat
companions I can attest to the
depth of emotional connection
we share Cats have a way of
piercing our defenses
revealing our deepest
vulnerabilities and yet they
remain curiously absent from
ScriptureIm livid about this
oversight How could the
writers of the Bible who so
eloquently described the
intricate relationships
between humans and other
animals dogs sheep oxen and
even pesky insects neglect to
include these creatures in
their stories Its as if they
were deliberately trying to
erase cats from our collective
memoryBut heres the thing cats
have been a part of human
history for thousands of years
The ancient Egyptians
worshipped them the Greeks and
Romans domesticated them and
today we adore them just as
fervently So why are they MIA
in the BiblePerhaps its
because cats defy
categorization Theyre not
quite like dogs with their
loyalty and obedience Nor are
they like sheep or oxen with
their predictable herding
behaviors Cats are independent
enigmatic and downright
mysterious exactly the
qualities that might make them
unwelcome in a storybookOr
maybe the omission is
intentional a deliberate
choice to focus on other
creatures that better
represented the relationships
between humans and animals at
the time After all the Bible
is full of symbolic language
and metaphors so perhaps cats
simply didnt fit into the
narrative tapestry of ancient
IsraelWhatever the reason Im
not going to let it get me
down As a cat lover Ill
continue to cherish these
enigmatic companions
acknowledging their very real
place in our collective hearts
And who knows Maybe someday
some clever biblical scholar
will rediscover the lost
gospel of Whiskers and Fluffy
revealing the hidden history
of cats in ScriptureUntil then
Ill just have to keep on
loving my feline friends even
if they dont get a mention in
the Good Book
