As the saying goes, even the toughest of fighters have a soft spot. For Denice Zamboanga, the first Filipino to win a mixed martial arts (MMA) world title in the women's division, that soft spot is her love for Creamline.

Zamboanga, also known as The Menace, recently cheered on her favorite team, Creamline, as they secured a straight sets victory over Chery Tiggo in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. As she watched the game live for the first time, Zamboanga couldn't help but be starstruck by the players.

A longtime fan of Creamline, a 10-time champion in the PVL, Zamboanga was thrilled to see her favorite team dominate on court. I am so happy since this is the first time I watched the games live here in PVL, she said. It felt surreal to share the same storyline with Creamline as I also made sports history in my own craft.

Zamboanga, who won the ONE interim women's atomweight championship last month, echoed her sentiments about giving history to her country. It is a great feeling to be able to give history to your country, she said. Of course, it is an honor; it's like you're carrying the whole country when I fought for this sport. I am so blessed and grateful that we were able to have that history, and bring pride to the Philippines.

As she watched Creamline play, Zamboanga was also thrilled to meet her idols Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and Michele Gumabao in person. It is a different feeling, she said. I was not expecting after the fight, and after taking the championship, this is how it all goes. I thought I was just a normal Denice, but I am so happy that they are recognizing me.

Zamboanga also showed pride in Filipino women athletes rising to the occasion and shining in various fields. We have a lot of Filipino and Filipina that bring pride to our country, she said. There's so much opportunity, and we have much to offer in different sports. Filipinos are really good athletes and dedicated.

As for aspiring athletes, Zamboanga offered some advice I will just continue to give my all and my dedication. Keep doing the hard work, and not give up. If you really have a goal, and you have a dream don't give up. Her enthusiasm was evident as she watched Creamline dominate on court, her love for the sport contagious, and her passion for sports history-making an inspiration to many.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
