The Feline Majesty A
NonSequitur Tribute to
Thailands Sacred CatsAs I sit
here typing away Im reminded
of a fascinating fact about
Siam now known as Thailand
that has nothing to do with my
current writing task but is
too interesting not to share
It seems that in the old days
the cat was considered so
sacred that one would ride at
the head of a parade
celebrating the new king Yes
you read that right a cat no
lessBut before I dive into the
absurdity of it all more on
that later let me give you
some context In Thai culture
cats have long been revered
for their mystical powers and
symbolic significance Theyre
often depicted in Buddhist art
and are believed to possess
spiritual properties So when a
royal procession was held to
celebrate the ascension of a
new monarch it only made sense
to the Thais at least that a
cat would be the grand marshal
of the paradeFastforward to
the present day and youll find
that these feline friends are
still celebrated in Thailand
In fact theres an annual
festival dedicated to the
worship of cats known as
Mekhong Cat Festival where
visitors can participate in
catthemed activities like
parades performances and even
cat yogaNow I know what youre
thinking what does this have
to do with anything Well my
friend thats where the non
sequitur comes in As a writer
Im used to switching between
topics like a chameleon
changing colors Sometimes
these tangents can lead to
interesting insights or new
perspectives and other times
they might just be a
delightful distraction from
the usual monotony of lifeCase
in point did you know that the
word non sequitur itself
originated from Latin meaning
it does not follow Its a
clever term that describes
those moments when our trains
of thought jump the tracks and
take us on a wild goose chase
And what better way to
illustrate this concept than
with an example about cats in
ThailandIn conclusion while
the idea of a cat riding at
the head of a royal parade
might seem absurd to some okay
most its a testament to the
enduring fascination we have
with these enigmatic creatures
So next time you find yourself
thinking about cats or
anything else for that matter
dont be afraid to take a
detour and explore the
unexpected connections waiting
to be discoveredNonSequitur
Bonus Did you know that the
ancient Egyptians also revered
cats In fact they believed
that cats were sacred animals
capable of absorbing evil
spirits No wonder their cat
goddess Bastet was so popular

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
