The Feline Foodie A
NonSequitur on Cats and
CuisineAs I sat down to write
about my favorite topic
catrelated news and trivia I
couldnt help but think of a
peculiar fact that has nothing
to do with felines yet somehow
seems fitting Did you know
that every year nearly four
million cats are consumed in
Asia Yes you read that right
cats And no this isnt some
sort of bizarre cateatcat
world were living in although
if it were Id be the first to
sign up for a subscription to
CatoftheMonth clubBut back to
those felines Its astonishing
to think about the sheer
number of cats that are eaten
annually in Asia a figure
that far exceeds the global
cat population Non sequitur
alert And yet despite this
seemingly bizarre phenomenon
many Asian cultures have been
consuming cat meat for
centuries as part of their
culinary traditionsNow I know
what youre thinking Whats the
big deal Cats are just like
any other animal theyre a
food source Ah but thats where
youre wrong Or am I As a
selfproclaimed feline fanatic
I have to admit that the
thought of devouring Whiskers
or Fluffy is nothing short of
unsettling And yetIn certain
Asian cultures cat meat is
considered a delicacy and is
believed to possess medicinal
properties In fact in some
regions cat soup is served as
a hangover remedy Talk about a
nonsequitur who knew that
cats could cure what ails you
On the other hand many animal
welfare organizations have
spoken out against the
practice citing concerns over
animal cruelty and the
potential health risks
associated with consuming
feline fleshAs I wrap up this
cattastrophe of a blog post
okay maybe not Im left
wondering Are there any other
nonsequiturs lurking in the
world of cats Like do catnip
farms secretly double as cat
cafes Or are cat ladies just
secretly running catthemed
restaurants under their homes
Okay maybe thats a stretchIn
any case this post has left me
with more questions than
answers and a healthy dose of
respect for those brave souls
who venture into the world of
feline cuisine Who knows Maybe
one day well see a global
cateating epidemic

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
