However, an investigation revealed that the prime minister's office had granted an exception for Nestle to use micro-filters as early as 2023, despite recommendations from the DGS health authority to suspend authorization due to contamination concerns. An official report stated that the water was contaminated, but Nestle claimed it was using micro-filters to improve food safety.

The decision to allow Nestle to continue using the banned filtering method was reportedly made after intense lobbying efforts by the company, including a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron's chief of staff. When asked about the controversy, Macron denied any understanding or collusion between his office and Nestle.

Nestle responded to the allegations, stating that it regularly engages in discussions with authorities overseeing its businesses and that all requests are publicly recorded.
