With inflation skyrocketing, we are seeing more and more costs increase across the board. This includes video games! In this blog post, I want to talk about how you can avoid overspending on video games moving forward into 2023.

In 2022, we saw a rapid rise in the cost of living, which unfortunately also impacted the prices of video games. While these price hikes may seem nominal at first glance, they can quickly add up if you are an avid gamer!

For example, let's say you have been spending $60 per game annually - that would mean your total spend on games last year was around $510. If we compare this to the current year where prices have increased by 20%, that means your new annual budget would be approximately $610. This extra $100 may not seem like much, but it can add up over time.

The good news is there are some strategies you can employ to help keep your gaming spending under control. I want to share three of my favorites with you

1. Take advantage of sales and discounts One of the best ways to save money on games is by taking advantage of sales and discounts when they happen. Keep an eye out for game studios, platforms, or third-party retailers that offer deals throughout the year.

2. Consider used games Another way to save some cash while still getting your gaming fix? Buying used games! While new titles may be tempting because they're fresh and exciting, pre-owned options could provide significant savings without compromising quality.

3. Cut back on unnecessary expenses Finally, take a look at your current gaming habits and identify any areas where you might be able to cut back or eliminate entirely. This could mean reducing (or eliminating!) microtransactions within games themselves or reducing time spent playing altogether.
