This panel discussion, organized by BluPrint magazine and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Environment and Design, drew a crowd of over 400 attendees.

The esteemed panel featured experts from PDP Architects, Leandro V. Locsin Partners (LVLP), Khadka + Eriksson Furunes, and other prominent architectural firms. The discussion centered on the impact of AI on aspiring architects and the role humans will play in this new era.

According to PDP Architects President and Founder Cathy Saldaña, AI is not a threat to aspiring architects, but rather an opportunity for them to shape their profession. After graduation, there are numerous job niches they can create or improve both locally and internationally, she emphasized.

Saldaña highlighted various potential job opportunities, including pursuing graduate studies, mentoring, business entrepreneurship, architectural writing, and more. She emphasized that AI should be used as a helpful tool in architecture, not the other way around. We, as architects, might become the tools; it's up to us humans how we treat AI and make these tools humanized, she said.

LVLP Partner Sudarshan Khadka Jr. weighed the pros and cons of AI in areas like rendering designs, creating images, and producing swift outputs. He acknowledged that machines cannot replace human connection and ensure the safety of buildings. Architects have a far superior touch for materials compared to AI, he noted.

Former Benilde School of Design and Arts dean Joey Yupangco emphasized that machines cannot formulate fresh ideas like architects can. He highlighted the importance of human creativity in navigating the AI revolution.

As aspiring architects enter this new landscape, it is clear that their role has never been more crucial. With AI as a tool to enhance their work, they have the power to create innovative and sustainable designs for the future.

The event demonstrated that while AI will undoubtedly transform the architecture profession, human creativity and judgment remain essential in shaping the built environment. Aspiring architects can look forward to a future where technology augments their skills, enabling them to design more efficiently and effectively.
