PWDs
The world has come to realize the significance of diversity, equity, and in[2D[K
inclusion, leading institutions to take bold steps towards ensuring equal o[1D[K
opportunities for individuals with disabilities (PWDs). In a major move tow[3D[K
towards creating a more inclusive society, Quezon City has institutionalize[16D[K
institutionalized its Kasama Ka sa Kyusi (KKSK) program for PWDs, reflect[7D[K
reflecting the city's commitment to empowering this marginalized group.
Breaking Down Barriers
Launched in 2023, KKSK aimed to address long-standing barriers to employmen[9D[K
employment faced by persons with disabilities. This comprehensive program p[1D[K
provides a full support system, from skills training and assessment to job [K
matching and placement. As of last March, the initiative has provided work [K
opportunities to more than 500 beneficiaries.
Institutional Support
The ordinance ensures sustained funding, program support, and institutional[13D[K
institutional backing for initiatives that help PWDs find meaningful and di[2D[K
dignified employment. This move not only reinforces the city's commitment t[1D[K
to ensuring PWDs are not excluded from economic opportunities but also demo[4D[K
demonstrates a proactive approach to creating an inclusive environment.
Exceeding Requirements
Quezon City has exceeded the minimum requirement of employing at least 1 pe[2D[K
percent of positions in government agencies, offices, and corporations rese[4D[K
reserved for persons with disabilities (Republic Act 10524). The city now e[1D[K
employs 731 PWDs, representing 3.12 percent of its total workforce of 23,44[5D[K
23,440 employees.
Pathway to Independence
For many beneficiaries, the program has become more than just an employment[10D[K
employment initiative – it has become a pathway toward independence, stabil[6D[K
stability, and renewed confidence. As Mayor Joy Belmonte noted, Applicants[11D[K
Applicants under the program undergo interviews and job assessments conduc[6D[K
conducted by QC-PDAO. Qualified applicants are then matched with positions [K
in city departments or partner companies based on their skills and capaciti[8D[K
capacities.
A Paragon of Inclusive Hiring
Quezon City's KKSK program sets a paragon for inclusive hiring practices, d[1D[K
demonstrating that institutions can make a meaningful impact when they prio[4D[K
prioritize diversity and inclusion. By institutionalizing this program, the[3D[K
the city has taken a significant step towards creating an environment where[5D[K
where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed.
Conclusion
The importance of QC's inclusive hiring program cannot be overstated. As we[2D[K
we move forward in 2026 and beyond, it is crucial that institutions continu[7D[K
continue to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion. By doing so, we ca[2D[K
can create a more just and equitable society for all – regardless of abilit[6D[K
ability or disability.
