This week's news is a mix of good and bad. Unfortunately, we had to bid farewell to a true luminary of the photographic world. The world lost one of its most influential voices this week as photojournalist Tim Hetherington died while covering the Libyan conflict. In happier news, there have been two breakthroughs in photography first, Apple has released an update for its Aperture software that will finally allow RAW files to be edited natively; and secondly, Canon has finally announced a successor to the legendary Canon EOS-1V camera. Let's take a look at some of the stories making headlines this week.

The first bit of tragic news came from Libya where photojournalist Tim Hetherington was killed while covering the conflict in that country. Hetherington, who also produced the Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo, was killed when a rocket hit his tent during fighting between Libyan government forces and rebels. He is survived by his wife, writer and artist Victoria Cooper.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
