The Philippine mixed doubles curling team, comprising Marc Pfister and Kathleen Dubberstein, secured a respectable fourth place finish at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. Despite an impressive start to their campaign, the duo ultimately fell short against World's No. 15 China's Han Yu and Wang Zhiyu, who staged a thrilling come-from-behind victory in their bronze-medal match.
The Filipino pair had navigated the round-robin phase with ease, notching four victories against one defeat, including a notable win over Chinese Taipei in the qualification match. However, they were unable to overcome the deficit and lost 6-5 to Han and Wang.
Pfister reflected on the game, stating, I thought we played well, but experience was lacking. Dubberstein also expressed disappointment, acknowledging that she could have made better shots with her final rocks. Despite the loss, the team can take pride in their achievement, as it marks a historic first for the Philippines to compete in mixed doubles curling at the Asian Winter Games.
The PH team will regroup and focus on upcoming competitions, with Pfister set to join the men's squad on Sunday while Dubberstein will compete with the women's team.
