PH Curling Duo Falls Short of Podium Finish in AWG Mixed Doubles Bronze Game

The Philippines' mixed doubles curling duo, comprising Marc Pfister and Kathleen Dubberstein, unfortunately fell short of their medal hopes at the Asian Winter Games (AWG). Despite a promising start, they ultimately finished fourth in the bronze game, losing to China's Han Yu and Wang Zhiyu with a score of 6-5.

Pfister, a Filipino-Swedish curler, and Dubberstein, a Filipino-American, started strong by taking an early lead. They scored one point in the first end and three points in the second end, putting them in a favorable position. However, they were unable to score in the subsequent four ends, allowing Han and Wang to accumulate six points and take a two-point lead at 6-4 heading into the final end.

In the last frame, Pfister and Dubberstein managed to score only one point, falling short of their target. This defeat means that the Philippines will have to wait another four years for its next chance to win a curling medal in the AWG.

Although this outcome was disappointing, it is tempered by the news that Peter Joseph Groseclose is carrying the country's hopes in the quarterfinals of the men's short track speed skating 1000-meter event. Groseclose, who also competed in the 1500-m and 500-m events, will need to finish in the top two or be the fastest third placer in his group to advance to the semifinals.

Groseclose's performance serves as a testament to the country's rich talent pool in short track speed skating. With proper training and support, he has the potential to become a medal contender in future international competitions.

Although the Philippines' mixed doubles curling team did not medaled this time around, their performance demonstrates the growing interest in the sport within the country. As enthusiasm continues to grow, we can expect more talented athletes like Pfister and Dubberstein to emerge and represent the country on the international stage.
