PetroGreen Energy Corp.'s Lim Bauan Solar Power Project Secures National Grid Approval, Marking a Significant Milestone in Philippine Renewable Energy
In a significant development for the solar industry in the Philippines, PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) has received approval from National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to connect the second phase of its 33.831-megawatt-peak (MWp) Lim Bauan Solar Power Project (LSPP-2) to the Luzon grid.
Technical Feasibility Confirmed
This milestone follows NGCP's earlier approval of a system impact study, which confirmed the technical feasibility of connecting LSPP-2 to the Tuguegarao-Cabagan 69-kilovolt transmission system. The project's first phase, or LSPP-1, had also received approval for a distribution impact study, distribution asset study, and connection agreement with Isabela II Electric Cooperative (Iselco-II).
Fast-Tracking Development
With these milestones achieved, PGEC is poised to fast-track the development and completion of both LSPP-1 and LSPP-2. LSPP-2 itself is a qualified solar project under the Green Energy Auction-2 (GEA-2) and has a December 2025 delivery commitment to the Department of Energy, said Vice President Maria Victoria Olivar.
Green Energy Initiative
The Lim Bauan Solar Power Project is an integral part of PGEC's green energy initiative, which aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to a sustainable energy future. The project's success will not only provide clean energy but also create jobs and stimulate local economies.
Industry Milestone
This approval marks a significant milestone for the solar industry in the Philippines, showcasing the country's commitment to renewable energy and its potential to drive economic growth. With the government's target of increasing renewable energy sources to 35% of the total energy mix by 2030, projects like LSPP-2 will play a vital role in achieving this goal.
Conclusion
In conclusion, PGEC's Lim Bauan Solar Power Project has taken a significant step forward with NGCP's approval. As the project continues to move forward, it is expected to create new opportunities and contribute to the country's transition to a low-carbon economy.
