Peru's National Police have rescued 123 women and girls from sexual exploitation in an operation that spanned two days and three cities.

The victims ranged in age from 15 to 60, according to a statement issued by the National Criminal Investigation Police (Dircote). They were freed following raids on brothels, hotels and bars. Some of the victims had been missing for as long as six years.

Peruvian police said they worked with other law enforcement agencies during the operation that took place in Lima, Trujillo and Chiclayo. The women were taken to shelters in each city where they can receive medical attention, psychological assistance and legal aid. Officials said the women will be offered job training and placement as well.

In 2013, Peru passed a historic law decriminalizing petty drug offenses but stopped short of full legalization. However, officials have struggled with how to implement it. The law was aimed at reducing overcrowding in prisons — many of which are run by criminal gangs — and cutting down on violence linked to the illicit drugs trade.

This year's coca harvest is expected to increase in Peru, where the vast majority of the world's cocaine is produced.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
