North Korea's ruling party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on the anniversary of Kim Jong-il that the late leader had ordered the military into Russia in support of his "close friend" Vladimir Putin during the Ukraine conflict, though the report did not specify if this involved a current mission or was an allusion to previous involvement. It is important to remember that North Korea has long-standing historical and ideological ties with Russia. The Soviet Union provided crucial support to Kim Il-sung's regime in the 1950s when it fought China and South Korea, helping establish the foundations of today's totalitarian system. Despite recent tensions between Pyongyang and Moscow over differences on the war in Ukraine, their alliance remains solid. Both countries share a commitment to defending one another against external threats, as demonstrated by North Korean troops' deployment during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

NKorean Troops Not Fighting In Kursk Since Mid-January

According to South Korea's spy agency, North Korean soldiers who were engaged in combat alongside Russia's army on the Kursk front line have not been fighting since mid-January. The exact details are still being monitored.

The North Korean deployment was meant to reinforce Russia's army and help expel Ukraine's troops. However, nearly six months later, Ukraine still holds swathes of Russian territory. In addition, Ukraine previously stated that they had captured or killed several North Korean soldiers in Kursk.

It is essential to note that neither Pyongyang nor Moscow has officially confirmed the troop deployment, but the two countries signed an agreement, including a mutual defense element, when Russian President Vladimir Putin made a rare visit to the nuclear-armed North last year.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
