Nigeria's Boko Haram has been known to carry out suicide bomb attacks in populated areas before but this time was different. On the morning of November 21st, they carried out a coordinated attack on St. Theresa College, a school for girls. In total there were three separate bombs that were detonated during an assembly and as students ran away from the blasts.

There is not much information on the number of casualties but over 200 students were injured and it has been confirmed that at least 23 girls died because of this attack. The ages of these girls range anywhere between the ages of 16-18, some being in their first year.

This attack is a sad reminder to Nigeria that they are still very much vulnerable. Although Boko Haram's strength may have diminished since they were declared a terrorist group by the United Nations, they can still cause mass damage and tragedy if allowed. The military's response was slow which only allowed them to escape quickly and safely after the attacks.

In addition to this, Nigeria has banned schoolgirls from wearing hijabs in public schools. This is due to Boko Haram's recruitment tactics being young girls that are vulnerable and alone. They use religion as a way to gain followers and support so they are trying to protect these young minds from the influence of such a dangerous group.

As of right now, many of those who have been injured are still being treated at local hospitals. Their families are devastated by this loss and Nigerians are enraged by how unprepared their government is in protecting its citizens.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
