On Friday, six people were killed and seven others were injured in a blaze that ripped through the construction site of a luxury hotel being built in South Korea's port city of Busan. According to officials from the National Fire Agency, the incident began just before 11 am at the Banyan Tree Hotel construction site. Approximately 100 workers were present when the fire started.
The fire reportedly originated on the first floor of the construction site where insulation materials had been stored, but no further information has been released regarding the cause of the blaze. South Korea's Acting President, Choi Sang-mok, ordered a full mobilization of available personnel and equipment to extinguish the fire after it was brought under control around 130 pm.
This incident comes just weeks after an Air Busan plane caught fire at Gimhae International Airport, prompting 176 passengers to evacuate and leaving seven people injured.
