The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed this development on Monday.

According to PNP spokesman Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño, Mollenido's lawyer, Cristobal Rimando, made the request citing a lack of direct implication in the crime. Rimando emphasized that his client has not received any notice for an obstruction of justice case and believes he is being unfairly targeted by authorities.

This appeal comes as investigators continue to probe the shocking murder of Diane and John Ysmael. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla previously revealed that the car dealer couple, who were also the Mollenido family's wedding godchildren, are believed to be the perpetrators behind the tragic event.

Mollenido's sister-in-law, Daisie Gabres, has even withdrawn charges against her estranged husband and come to his defense. However, John still faces the possibility of obstruction of justice for allegedly having the victim's clothes incinerated.

Rimando maintains that Mollenido lacks any motive to commit the crime and points out that the police had custody of Diane's remains, including her dress, which was released along with all her belongings. He believes his client is being unfairly accused and is seeking a chance to grieve for his lost family.
