Title Makabayan Bloc Kicks Off Campaign in Manila, Vowing to Overhaul 'Rotten Politics'
The Makabayan Bloc has launched its campaign in Manila, with a bold promise to upend the country's political status quo. The group began its rally at the Kartilya ng Katipunan shrine on Tuesday, drawing inspiration from the ideals of Andres Bonifacio and other Filipino heroes.
In a Facebook post announcing the start of their campaign, the Makabayan Bloc emphasized that their approach would be distinct from traditional campaigns that rely heavily on media advertising and government machinery. Instead, they plan to travel across different parts of the country to engage with citizens and listen to their concerns.
The bloc's campaign will focus on key issues such as high commodity prices, low wages, corruption, loss of sovereignty, and the lack of true democracy. They believe that this election presents an opportunity to expose and dismantle a rotten political system that benefits only a select few.
The Makabayan Bloc has fielded 12 candidates in various elections, including labor leader Jerome Adonis, nurse Jocelyn Andamo, fisherfolk leader Ronnel Arambulo, Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas, former Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño, ACT Teachers Rep. Francisca Castro, Urban poor leader Mimi Domingo, Transport leader Mody Floranda, Muslim activist Amirah Lidasan, former Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza, and Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas leader Danilo Ramos.
As the campaign season intensifies in Manila and beyond, it will be intriguing to see how these candidates fare and whether their approach resonates with voters. One certainty is that the stakes are high, and the outcome of this election could have far-reaching consequences for the country.
