With only slight dimming of the lights, knitters and crocheters worked on their projects, chatting and socializing with fellow craft enthusiasts. Kaja Vospernik, a 23-year-old fashion student, was excited to meet others who shared her passion for knitting. She noted, I really enjoy knitting while watching movies or listening to podcasts, so the cinema is a great place for that.
For Palmer and her colleagues, the goal of these events is not only to bring people together but also to create a sense of community among crafty individuals. As she explained, A lot of people started knitting and crocheting during the pandemic and out of necessity, only did it at home alone. That's why a lot of people now want to do it with others.
The Votiv Kino's crafting community has grown significantly, with an estimated 1,000 crafty individuals in Vienna, according to Judith Hasloewer, who co-initiated the event. This diverse group is open to all age groups and encourages collaboration.
