5 Lessons Learned from Thailand deporting 10 Chinese nationals on suspicion of cyber fraud

As of late, I've been traveling through South East Asia, mostly because my wife is from there and her family live in different parts of the region. We've had a fantastic time so far visiting new places, eating great food, and getting to know our family better.

One thing that stands out for me when traveling are the differences between cultures, and particularly with how people interact with one another and the world around them. This has been especially apparent when I compare my surroundings in Thailand compared to other countries that I've traveled to recently. Here are 5 things that I have learned during this trip so far

1. People generally care about you.

I think that it's easy for us Westerners to get caught up in the cynicism of the world and forget that most people want to help. This isn't to say that there aren't bad people out there, just that we can choose how we react to things.

2. When in doubt, follow your instincts

If something doesn't feel right, then it probably isn't right. Listen to your gut if you feel like something is off and don't be afraid to speak up.

3. You can do a lot with very little

It has been interesting for me to travel through developing countries where there isn't as much waste as we have in the United States and see how resourceful people are. There is a certain pride that comes from being able to produce quality work without an abundance of resources available.

4. Everyone loves great food, and will go out of their way for it

People take a lot of pride in the food that they eat and where they get it. This isn't always related to what's on your plate; sometimes it's just about eating something together with loved ones. There are some things in life that transcend language barriers.

5. People want to work hard, but not at the expense of their families

I've been impressed by how people in developing countries don't mind working long hours so that they can support their families, even if it means sacrificing on other luxuries like vacations or entertainment. It's nice to know that there are still people out there who would rather work hard and enjoy what little time they have with their loved ones.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
