Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will meet United States President Donald Trump during a visit to the US this week, according to Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan's top government spokesman. This meeting follows Ishiba's brief telephone call in November with then-president-elect Trump and his reportedly unsuccessful attempts to meet before Trump's inauguration on January 20.
In addition to their general discussion, Ishiba is also expected to express interest in President Trump visiting Japan at the earliest opportunity. Furthermore, Ishiba will seek clarification regarding the status of a bid by Nippon Steel to purchase US Steel, which was blocked by Joe Biden, Trump's predecessor.
