Iraqi Forces Deliver Significant Blow Against Islamic State Foreign Operations
In a major development, Iraqi security forces have successfully eliminated a senior leader of the Islamic State (IS) group responsible for foreign operations. The news was confirmed by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and later corroborated by US President Donald Trump.
According to Sudani's statement on social media platform X, Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rufayi, also known as IS's governor of its Syrian and Iraqi provinces, was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and globally. Rufayi played a significant role in planning and executing attacks beyond Iraq's borders through his leadership of foreign operations offices.
Although Iraq declared victory over IS on its territory in 2017, the group has continued to carry out sporadic attacks against Iraqi forces and civilians. The death of Rufayi is seen as a substantial blow against IS foreign operations, which have been responsible for numerous attacks worldwide.
The operation was carried out by Iraqi intelligence in cooperation with the US-led anti-jihadist coalition in Iraq, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between international partners to combat terrorism and disrupt extremist networks.
