Indonesia's President Jokowi has named his nephew as his pick to head the country's central bank, a key position in Southeast Asia's fifth-largest economy.

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi nominated his nephew Jonathan Iskandar Widodo to lead the country's central bank. The appointment will require parliamentary approval.
Jokowi had said in July he planned to ask his nephew for the job but had not yet done so. Parliament must now approve the nomination.
Widodo has a degree in economics from Australia's Monash University and has worked at Bank Indonesia since 2017. He is currently deputy governor.

This is Jokowi's second key economic appointment, after naming Sri Mulyani Indrawati to be finance minister earlier this month. Both positions require parliamentary approval.
Indonesia's economy has been resilient despite a slowdown in the wider Asia-Pacific region caused by the pandemic and drop-off in demand from major trading partner China.

Jonathan Iskandar Widodo will replace Perry Warjiyo, whose five-year term ends next year.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
