Indonesia has stopped a project to build an international convention center on land adjacent to U.S. President Donald Trump's Indonesian resort.
The government-owned property developer PT Agincourt Ventures, which was awarded the contract in March, said it decided to cancel the $1 billion project after concerns were raised about doing business with a company linked to Trump.

We have received official information that there is a link between the presidential family and this investor. So we don't want to get involved, CEO Andi Agung Sugoto said Friday in an interview with Bloomberg TV. The 150-hectare site on which the convention center would be built is next door to the 270-hectare property where Trump's resort is located.

The land has been zoned for tourism, and PT Agincourt Ventures had hoped to begin construction by the end of this year on the international convention center. The company said it was notified in June that a special presidential permit would be required to go ahead with the project. However, that permit hasn't been issued, and the company now considers the matter closed.

The decision comes as Indonesian President Joko Widodo has come under increasing pressure to sever business ties with Trump's companies.
Widodo is scheduled to meet with Trump on Monday at the White House. The meeting between the two leaders was planned before news reports surfaced of the president's apparent conflict-of-interest violations.
Trump's family-run businesses have drawn criticism in the U.S. for potentially violating anti-corruption provisions.

Indonesia's Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Wednesday that Widodo shouldn't get involved with Trump's Indonesian venture, according to a statement carried by The Associated Press. However, Indonesia's finance minister, Sri Mulyani, told the AP on Thursday that she doesn't believe there is a conflict of interest.

The New York Times reported this week that Trump has been discussing the possibility of running for president again in 2024.

Trump, who lost his bid for re-election to Democrat Joe Biden last month, has not conceded and continues to make baseless claims that the election was tainted by widespread fraud. States have overwhelmingly certified Biden as the winner of the presidential race. The outcome is also being challenged by Trump supporters in several courts.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo should not get involved with US counterpart Donald Trump's hotel venture, Indonesia's vice president said Wednesday.
Trump has long-standing business ties to the Indonesian capital Jakarta where he has an ownership stake in a luxury hotel and resort on the outskirts of the city.

Jusuf Kalla told reporters that Indonesia shouldn't get involved with Trump's venture.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
