Indonesia has been commended for its strict punishments handed down to two men convicted of poaching rhinos, including a life sentence with no chance of parole.
The country's Supreme Court upheld the original sentencing for Rukka and Sugeng on Monday, who were found guilty of killing three critically endangered Sumatran elephants in 2018. The duo was also convicted of shooting dead one of only two known Javan rhinos.
The pair will not be eligible for parole until they have served their full sentences. Indonesia has also banned poachers from leaving the country while on bail, and it requires DNA samples prior to trial.
