The Evolution of Theft Makati's Fight Against Crime Pays Off

As we enter a new year, it's heartening to see significant strides being made in reducing crime rates. In January 2025, the Makati City Police Station (MCPS) conducted comprehensive operations that resulted in a notable decrease in various index crimes and an impressive surge in crime-solving efficiency.

According to MCPS Officer in Charge Col. Jean de la Torre, Makati has seen a substantial drop in theft and robbery incidents. From 32 cases in December 2024, the number decreased dramatically to just 13 in January 2025. This decline can be attributed to increased police visibility and a more targeted approach.

De la Torre highlighted the success of ongoing checkpoints and Oplan Sita operations, which have led to a significant increase in warnings issued (73.5%) and fines collected (367.3%) compared to the same period last year. These numbers are a reflection of our focus on proactive policing, he said. It's not just about reacting to crime, but taking steps to prevent it from happening in the first place.

The station also achieved notable improvements in its Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) and Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE). With a 69.23% CCE and 61.53% CSE, the police are not only deterring crime but also successfully solving and clearing cases at a higher rate than before.

The numbers indicate that we're doing more than just stopping crimes in progress – we're solving cases quickly and efficiently, De la Torre emphasized.

The fight against illegal drugs has remained a top priority for the Makati police. In January alone, they conducted 33 drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 53 drug users and 13 drug pushers. The police also confiscated illegal drugs valued at over P2.3 million, marking a significant improvement compared to last year's figures.

Furthermore, the MCPS crackdown on illegal gambling has led to 75 arrests and the seizure of over P14,000 in bet money.

Additionally, the issue of loose firearms continues to be a major concern. The Makati CPS reported the confiscation or surrender of 30 firearms, a 50% increase over last year, reducing the risk of gun-related crimes in the city.

As we reflect on these achievements, it's clear that the evolution of theft and robbery cases in Makati is headed in the right direction. With continued focus on proactive policing and community engagement, we can expect to see even more positive results in the years to come.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
