Stockholm, Sweden – The Swedish government introduced a bill to amend weapon laws and restrict access to semi-automatic guns on Friday. This comes after the worst mass shooting in the country's history took place this week.

The gunman killed ten people before apparently killing himself at an education center in Orebro, west of Stockholm. He then used a semiautomatic pistol which is legal for civilians to own.

There are certain types of weapons that are so dangerous that they should only be possessed for civilian purposes as an exception, the government said in a statement.

The bill will also strengthen penalties for illegal acquisition and possession of firearms. It was announced on Friday evening, with parliament set to vote next week on the bill.
