From Defeat to Dominance Meneses' UAAP Return After Creamline's 5-Set Loss

In a remarkable display of resilience, coach Sherwin Meneses bounced back from a tough loss in the PVL All-Filipino Conference to lead the NU Lady Bulldogs to a convincing straight-sets sweep of De La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP court.

Just 24 hours prior, Meneses' Creamline Cool Smashers suffered a thrilling five-set defeat at the hands of PLDT High Speed Hitters. However, he quickly turned his attention to guiding the defending champion NU Lady Bulldogs, and it paid off with a triumphant return to the UAAP court.

In his post-game interview, Meneses acknowledged that Saturday's loss was a valuable learning experience, but emphasized the importance of moving forward and not dwelling on past mistakes.

Yesterday's loss was just about having lapses in the fifth set, Meneses said. Preparing for this game is pretty much the same since it's still volleyball, albeit you're guiding a different set of players. I guess it went pretty well. I might have lost yesterday, but I bounced back here although we didn't really take the loss yesterday too bad.

Meneses' journey to becoming one of the most successful coaches in Philippine volleyball is nothing short of impressive. With stints at Adamson, Arellano, Generika Ayala Lifesavers, and Creamline under his belt, he has earned a reputation for being able to adapt to different teams and situations.

His return to the UAAP court was especially significant, given the Lady Bulldogs' strong start to the season and their bid to defend their title. Meneses is pleased with how things have gone so far and credits his team's veteran players for their responsiveness and determination.

First of all, I'm really excited because we were about to face La Salle, he said. Second, I'm happy that we won in straight sets, and the players were very responsive. I'm happy with my UAAP return. The veteran players really came to work today. They really wanted to win.

As Meneses looks to lead NU to a repeat title, he is taking things one point at a time – an approach that served him well in Sunday's victory over De La Salle.

We just told the players to approach it one point at a time, he said. Being a champion last year is already a thing of the past; the new challenge is to defend it. It's not easy. Every time we score a point, we get closer to defending the crown. So, that's going to be our simple target – any opponent, ranked lower or higher, we're taking it one point at a time.

In conclusion, Meneses' UAAP return was a testament to his ability to adapt and respond to different challenges. As he looks to lead NU to another title, he will continue to emphasize the importance of focusing on the present moment and not getting ahead of himself.

By doing so, he will be able to maintain his momentum and keep his team motivated throughout the season. With his wealth of experience and ability to read the game, Meneses is well-positioned for success in 2025 – and beyond.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
