The Future of Filipinos Favoring Preventive Healthcare - A Study Reveals Shift in Consumer Behavior

A recent study by insurance firm AIA Philippines has shed light on the evolving preferences of Filipino consumers when it comes to healthcare and financial planning. The survey, titled Rethink Healthy Shaping Filipinos' Health-Seeking Choices from Thinking to Doing, reveals a significant shift towards preventive approaches to health and long-term financial planning.

The Rise of Preventive Healthcare

According to the study, which gathered insights from 800 Filipinos across generations nationwide, a majority of respondents (70%) have rejected a reactive approach to physical health, opting instead for proactive measures. Similarly, when it comes to mental well-being, 60% of participants reported no longer adopting a wing it mentality, but rather prioritizing planning and preparation.

Long-Term Thinking and Financial Planning

The survey also found that while many Filipinos still prioritize short-term spending (59%) and immediate mental well-being (57%), more than half (56%) are making forward-looking decisions to ensure their financial security. This long-term thinking is reflected in the willingness of 42% of respondents to purchase life insurance within the next 12 months, as well as their proactive approach to health and finances, even with existing HMO coverage.

Financial Protection and Family Dynamics

The study highlighted the importance of family responsibilities in driving individuals' decisions around healthcare and financial planning. For instance, 63% of participants reported taking care of their health primarily for the sake of their loved ones. However, this prioritization also comes with trade-offs, as 71% said that family relationships affect their mental well-being, while 43% admitted to sometimes sacrificing personal financial goals to support relatives.

Conclusion

The AIA Philippines study suggests that Filipinos are increasingly prioritizing preventive healthcare and long-term financial planning, driven by a desire to protect their loved ones and prepare for the future. Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
