Title Fighting Maroons' Fresh Start Coach Bocboc's Confidence in Young Squad

As the UP Fighting Maroons embark on a new chapter in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, Coach Benson Bocboc exudes confidence in his youthful team, despite more than half of the lineup consisting of rookies. With a fresh start and a renewed sense of purpose, the Fighting Maroons seek to leave their disappointing 1-13 record from last year behind.

A New Era for UP Volleyball

Coach Bocboc, a seasoned assistant coach at La Salle, brings a fresh perspective to the team. However, he believes that his team's youthful energy and determination will be the key factors driving their success. This is a huge opportunity for us, he said after their opening game win against UE Lady Warriors. We have a new coach (me), more than half of our lineup comprises rookies – it's a new experience, but I think we'll fight until the end and get there.

Rookies Shine in Opening Game

The Fighting Maroons' opening game saw Joan Monares and rookie Kianne Olango making significant contributions, pumping in 17 and 15 points respectively. Monares also added 11 excellent digs to her name, demonstrating that she is a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Adjustments Needed for MOA Arena

Coach Bocboc acknowledged that adjustments are necessary for his team, particularly when playing at the Mall of Asia Arena. Many of them played at MOA for the first time. It's a very challenging venue – there's no excuse but it's a factor we must be ready and adapt to, he said.

Leadership from All Corners

When asked about leadership, Coach Bocboc emphasized that everyone on the team can step up as leaders. A lot of players can take charge. It doesn't have to be just the veterans – even the rookies can be a leader within their own right, he said.

As the Fighting Maroons continue their journey in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, it will be exciting to see how they develop and grow under Coach Bocboc's guidance. With their youthful energy and determination, there is no doubt that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
