EU Warns of Retaliation in Trade War with US We Will Replicate

The European Union (EU) has issued a stern warning to the United States, vowing to replicate any tariffs imposed on it by Washington. The French foreign minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, made the statement on Monday, cautioning against a trade war.

There is no hesitation when it comes to defending our interests, Barrot emphasized in an interview with TF1. His comments came after US President Donald Trump announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum products this week.

When asked if France and the EU would retaliate against Washington's measures, Barrot replied unequivocally Of course. It's not a surprise. We replicated when Donald Trump did it in 2018, and we will replicate again this time.

The European Commission will determine which sectors to target with retaliatory measures, but Barrot warned that no one has an interest in engaging in a trade war with the EU.

The tariffs on steel and aluminum imports are the latest in a series of trade levies announced by Trump, sparking fears of a global trade war. French President Emmanuel Macron echoed these concerns, suggesting that the EU should not be Washington's top priority.
