Title DOLE Rolls Out P260M in Livelihood Aid Nationwide Strengthenin[12D[K
Strengthening Long-term Income Opportunities
As we mark Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) takes a[1D[K
a significant step towards empowering workers with sustainable sources of l[1D[K
livelihood. The agency has rolled out over P261.5 million in livelihood ass[3D[K
assistance nationwide, targeting 11,257 beneficiaries under its Kabuhayan P[1D[K
Program.
This initiative goes beyond short-term aid, aiming to equip workers with lo[2D[K
long-term income opportunities that can support their families well after t[1D[K
the holiday. The funding will be coursed through DOLE's Integrated Liveliho[8D[K
Livelihood Program (DILP), one of the agency's flagship interventions desig[5D[K
designed for informal workers, vulnerable sectors, and community-based grou[4D[K
groups.
The Kabuhayan Program reflects the government's broader strategy of pairing[7D[K
pairing immediate financial relief with long-term economic resilience, espe[4D[K
especially for those most affected by unstable or low-income work. Instead [K
of one-time assistance, beneficiaries will receive support that allows them[4D[K
them to build or expand small enterprises tailored to local demand and avai[4D[K
available resources.
These livelihood grants come in the form of starter kits or materials for p[1D[K
projects such as sari-sari stores, negokarts, farming, livestock raising, f[1D[K
fishing ventures, and other community-driven businesses. The assistance is [K
flexible and scalable, with individuals eligible for packages worth up to P[1D[K
P50,000, while organized groups or associations can receive as much as P3 m[1D[K
million depending on their approved proposals.
One standout success story is the Hinatuan Seaweed Farmers Fishermen Cooper[6D[K
Cooperative, a previous Kabuhayan Program beneficiary and one of the 2025 D[1D[K
DOLE Kabuhayan Awards winners. The group transformed its livelihood model f[1D[K
from environmentally harmful practices to sustainable seaweed farming, prov[4D[K
providing a stable source of income for its members.
Today, the cooperative supports 107 community members, providing them with [K
a reliable and eco-friendly source of income. This success story demonstrat[10D[K
demonstrates how what was once an uncertain and destructive livelihood has [K
evolved into a reliable economic activity that benefits both families and t[1D[K
the local ecosystem.
As we look to the future, it's clear that initiatives like DOLE's Kabuhayan[9D[K
Kabuhayan Program are crucial in empowering workers and communities with su[2D[K
sustainable sources of livelihood. By providing the necessary support and r[1D[K
resources, these programs can help individuals build a better life for them[4D[K
themselves and their families.
