DLSU Reunion Spells End to Creamline's Winning Streak

ANTIPLOLO, Philippines — In a thrilling five-set match, PLDT's DLSU connection proved to be the game-changer as they ended Creamline's 19-game winning streak in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

The reunion of former DLSU stalwarts Majoy Baron, Kim Kianna Dy, Mika Reyes, and Kim Fajardo was a key factor in PLDT's victory. The four volleybelles, known for their heart of a champion mentality, played crucial roles in the match.

Baron and Reyes showed their lethal form with middle attacks, tallying 15 and 11 points, respectively. Dy, who had just recovered from an injury, scored her first point in the conference via a monstrous block over Jema Galanza late in the fourth frame, setting the tone for PLDT. Fajardo displayed her wit in playmaking, making two service aces.

With the DLSU connection in full swing, PLDT survived Creamline's formidable attack in a grueling five-set match, 30-28, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14, at Ynares Center in Antipolo City last Saturday.

'When we were all together inside Kim said 'Wow DLSU feels ah,' Reyes recalled, highlighting the chemistry between the former La Salle stars.

In a crucial moment in the fifth frame, PLDT trailed by three points (8-5), but Baron and Galang showed their chemistry as Baron scored three consecutive points via Galang's sets, tying the game at 8-8.

'When Kim entered the court, it was a big deal for me. Kim really knows me, she knows when to activate me. I am always ready,' Baron said, praising her teammate's instincts.

As Creamline held the lead early in the fifth set, Dy put a stop to Galanza's prowess with a monster block that changed the game's momentum. I am really proud of our teamwork; you can see how we survived the rallies. The quality and heart are there, Baron added.

The DLSU connection played a significant role in PLDT's victory, which marked the only team in the PVL to obtain a three-game winning streak (2024 Reinforced and 2024 All-Filipino Conference). Savi Davison's career-high of 34 points also contributed to PLDT's success.

The win improved PLDT's record to 7-3, while Creamline fell to 9-1.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
