At a recent Palace briefing, Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel emphasized his department's commitment to addressing this issue. The significant disparity between the farmgate and retail prices of pork raises concerns about profiteering, he noted. The DA is working to identify the root causes of the price hike and prevent further exploitation.

To put the scale of the problem into perspective, let us consider the numbers. The farmgate price of pork ranges from PHP 150-170 per kilogram, while the retail price can reach as high as PHP 300-350 per kilogram. This substantial difference suggests that there may be opportunities for profiteering in the supply chain.
