Cuba Slams Unprecedented Trump Threats
Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel has called out U.S. President Donald Trump f[1D[K
for his threats of military aggression against the Caribbean island, statin[6D[K
stating that the level of danger and unprecedentedness has reached a new hi[2D[K
high. In a post on X, Diaz-Canel wrote, The US president is escalating his[3D[K
his threats of military aggression against #Cuba to a dangerous and unprece[7D[K
unprecedented level.
Diaz-Canel urged the international community to take a stance on whether su[2D[K
such a drastic criminal act will be allowed to satisfy the interests of a [K
small but wealthy and influential group, eager for revenge and domination.[12D[K
domination. He added, No aggressor, however powerful, will find surrender[9D[K
surrender in Cuba.
Just hours before Trump's comments in Florida, he signed an executive order[5D[K
order tightening sanctions against the government in Havana and entities th[2D[K
that collaborate with it. The order was made just days after the U.S. block[5D[K
blocked fuel supplies to the country.
Trump has repeatedly mused about taking over Cuba, which lies 145 kilometer[9D[K
kilometers from Florida and has been under a nearly continuous U.S. trade e[1D[K
embargo since Fidel Castro led a communist revolution on the island in 1959[4D[K
1959. Already in the throes of economic stagnation, Cuba's plight deepened [K
when Washington imposed a fuel blockade in January, with only one Russian o[1D[K
oil tanker making it through since then.
On Friday, huge crowds marched to the U.S. Embassy in Havana to mark May Da[2D[K
Day, denouncing threats of aggression from Washington. Diaz-Canel led the m[1D[K
march, along with 94-year-old former leader Raul Castro, Fidel's brother.
