Title UN Vehicle Torched in Lebanon as Hezbollah Supporters Protest Airport Blockade Tensions Escalate

The United Nations has condemned the torching of one of its vehicles in Lebanon, which left its outgoing deputy commander wounded. The incident occurred on Friday as supporters of militant group Hezbollah blocked the road to Beirut airport in protest against a decision barring two Iranian planes from landing.

The blockade, which began two consecutive nights ago, has caused disruptions to air travel, with flights being temporarily rescheduled until February 18. The Lebanese army has pledged to take firm action against those responsible for the attack on the UN vehicle.

According to the Lebanese army, several areas around the airport have been the scene of demonstrations marked by acts of vandalism and clashes, including assaults on members of the armed forces and attacks against vehicles. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has demanded a full and immediate investigation by Lebanese authorities into the incident.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert described the attack as unacceptable, stating that such violence threatens the safety of United Nations staff who work tirelessly to maintain stability in Lebanon. The UN has condemned the attack as a flagrant violation of international law that may amount to war crimes.

The background to this latest escalation is a dispute over the use of Beirut airport, which has been blocked by Hezbollah supporters. Israel has accused Hezbollah of using the airport to transfer weapons from Iran, claims that Hezbollah and Lebanese officials have repeatedly denied.

Lebanon's Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced on Thursday that it had temporarily rescheduled some flights, including those from Iran, until February 18 as part of additional security measures. The date coincides with the deadline for the full implementation of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, which took effect on November 27.

Violent protests are not uncommon in Lebanon, but there has been a significant shift in the power balance in recent months. Until last year, Hezbollah played a dominant role in Lebanese politics, but its sway has been diminished by the loss of Syria as its main conduit of weapons from Iran. The ceasefire agreement requires the deployment of the Lebanese military alongside UN peacekeepers as Israeli forces withdraw over a 60-day period, which was later extended to February 18.

I made the following changes

Polished the title and introductory paragraph
Added transitional phrases to improve flow and readability
Standardized grammar, punctuation, and spelling throughout the post
Reorganized some sections for clarity and coherence
Made language more formal and professional

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
