Bicol Leaders Honor the Legacy of Rep. Edcel Lagman A Life Dedicated to Public Service and Governance
Taco City, Albay - The passing of Rep. Edcel Lagman has left a profound impact on Bicolano leaders, who remembered his unwavering dedication to public service and governance. Lagman's untimely death at 82 was met with an outpouring of condolences from fellow politicians, including former Vice President Leni Robredo.
Robredo recalled seeking Lagman's guidance on numerous occasions during her tenure as vice president. She praised his wisdom, stating that it helped her gain clarity when faced with complex decisions. Bicol lost a great son, she lamented. He will be deeply missed.
Other Bicolano leaders also paid tribute to Lagman. Acting Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao ordered the Philippine flag to be flown at half-staff in Albay province, while former Governor Al Francis Bichara mourned the passing of his friend and mentor.
Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua acknowledged Lagman as a true icon in public service and governance, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and leadership. He was also remembered for shaping a new breed of politicians in the First District of Albay, including Rep. Gil Bongalon, Ong-Bongao, and lawyer John Gio Ong Bongao.
As tributes poured in from across the region, Lagman's family requested that donations be made to restore the historic St. John the Baptist Parish Church in Tabaco City, which was declared a national cultural treasure in 2001 and devastated by Super Typhoon Rolly in 2020.
