The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles kicked off their second-round campaign in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament with a resounding 25-16, 25-18, 25-21 victory over the University of the Philippines (UP) on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
In this impressive win, Ateneo showcased its exceptional teamwork and skill, ultimately securing their fifth victory. The Blue Eagles' dominance was evident in their spiking and service departments, where they outperformed UP with 45-35 and 7-0 points respectively.
Key players Amil Pacinio, Jettlee Gopio, and Jian Salarzon worked together seamlessly to lift the team's record to 5-3 at solo third. This performance was a testament to their ability to adapt and work as a cohesive unit, highlighting the importance of teamwork in achieving success.
In contrast, UP struggled to keep pace with Ateneo's intensity, with Nicolas and Castrodes attempting to put them on the board but ultimately falling short. Despite this, the Fighting Maroons' efforts were commendable, with Nicolas and Castrodes each contributing 10 points.
