As global politics continue to evolve, it's crucial that we acknowledge the impact on individuals affected by these changes. For Filipino workers abroad, particularly in areas like the Middle East, uncertainty can be overwhelming. Fortunately, government agencies and non-profit organizations are working together to repatriate our kababayan home.
Last Thursday, 29 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from Israel. This latest batch of returnees marks a significant milestone in the ongoing repatriation efforts led by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
The Repatriation Journey Begins
According to DMW, the repatriation is part of the government's response to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, as directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The agency has been working tirelessly to assist OFWs affected by the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
It's worth noting that 1,205 OFWs and 33 dependents have already returned home from Israel since October 2023. This is a testament to the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our kababayan abroad.
Immediate Assistance for Returnees
Upon arrival, returnees received immediate financial assistance from DMW and OWWA. They were also given free training vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to help them rebuild their lives back home.
The National Reintegration Center for OFWs will provide ongoing support for the returning Filipinos' reintegration. This includes livelihood assistance, skills training for them or their family members, ensuring a fresh start.
A New Beginning Awaits
As we welcome our kababayan back home, it's essential to acknowledge that repatriation is just the first step in their journey towards rebuilding their lives. DMW and OWWA are committed to providing ongoing support for the returnees, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to thrive.
In conclusion, the repatriation of 29 OFWs from Israel serves as a reminder of our government's dedication to protecting the welfare of our kababayan abroad. As we look towards the future, let us continue to support and empower these individuals as they begin their new chapter back home.
