Abad from Barangay Tangos North led this year's Top 10 Most Outstanding Fisherfolk. With a fishing career spanning over two decades, Abad turned his humble beginnings into a story of triumph, supporting his family of six, helping three of his children graduate from college, and founding the Small Commercial Fishing Consumers Cooperative of Navotas. Eligibility Criteria To qualify for the Top 10 Fisherfolk, nominees must be registered Navotenyo fishermen endorsed by their respective barangay and barangay fisheries and aquatic resources management council chairperson. They must also meet specific criteria, including being upstanding citizens with no pending or ongoing cases or prior convictions, and having achieved milestones worthy of emulation and inspiration for their fellow fisher folk. Recognizing Excellence The awardees received cash prizes ranging from ₱4,000 to ₱10,000, plaques of recognition, and additional incentives such as groceries and rice. All Top 10 awardees are eligible to nominate a family member for the 'NavotaAs Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda' Scholarship, which includes a yearly allowance of ₱16,500 for transportation and food, as well as a ₱1,500 book stipend per academic year. Showcasing Strength The 'Araw ng Mangingisda' showcased the fisher folk's strength and skill through competitions. Boat race winners received prizes up to ₱20,000 while participants in the net mending contest won up to ₱5,000. All competitors also took home 10 kilos of rice.
