China court orders Malaysia Airlines to compensate families of MH370 victims

Malaysia's High Court has issued an order for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to pay a sum of US$50 million as compensation to the families who lost their loved ones on board the missing flight MH370. The court ruled that Malaysia Airlines must fully and finally settle all claims from the victims' next-of-kin within three months.

The ruling was made by Justice Collin Wilson after more than two years of legal battles between MAS and the next-of-kin, which began in 2017 following the disappearance of MH370. The families had sought damages totaling US$600 million for emotional distress as well as loss of life resulting from Malaysia Airlines' negligence.

The ruling is seen as a victory for the families who lost their loved ones on board MH370. It sends out an important message to other airlines that they cannot ignore or neglect their responsibilities towards passengers and their families in such tragic circumstances.
